Bowens Kite Spots
Don River Mouth, Queensbeach

The Don Mouth is the location kiters turn to when the winds turns easterly.
E is ideal as it is close to onshore wind but ESE will also a good direction.
This spot offers a good mix of (depending on the tide) smooth water and choppy waves.
On a mid to low tide , many flat water lagoons will pop up allowing for some flat water kiting.
Mid to high tide only really offers a ride out in the chop.
Pros: Flat water , short walk to kite and a range of kiting options
Cons: No grassy clean area to setup/pack up, minimal shady areas to relax
This spot changes dramatically when the rivers flows , so what you get one month , it probably won't look the same next time you come.
Front Beach, Bottom of main street

The Front Beach kite spot is located in front of the local sailing club.
This spot is a great spot to pack up and setup as it has a nice grassy patch with a big tree for shade and tables and chairs.
This spot has to be respected as it is property of the Sailing Club and we share the grounds with them.
SE is the ideal wind for this location as it is directly onshore.
The tide goes quite a ways out here, so if you catch it on low tide, you will be up for a walk to get out there.
High tide comes right upto the grass, so caution should be taken in self launching/landing as there are big coconut trees surrounding the area.
There is tap water available to clean yourself and your gear .
Pros: Clean grassy spot, great to relax, short walk
Cons: low tide is a big walk, no flat water really.
While there are other possible locations to kite here, these are two that are used most and generally the only place you will see kiters
